When and How to Rotate Tires

When and How to Rotate Tires

Tires are literally the most important elements of your car, which is why the invention of the wheel is a pretty big thing, even today. The four tires that enable your car to run just so that you can conquer distances far and wide deserve to be taken care of. This is why tire rotation is crucial for every vehicle owner to keep in mind. In case you’re wondering what tire rotation is and why it is so important, here are a few factors to understand.

Tire rotation, in simple words, is the process of changing up the position of your tires with each other in order to avoid uneven wear. This is important simply because some tires out of the four that you have, are prone to more wear due to the way the car is used. If uneven wearing happens, you end up risking your safety as well as shelling out a lot of money buying brand-new tires. Instead, if you rotate your tires after preset intervals, all four tires will wear equally and evenly, leading your car to have better grip on the road with a less likelihood of any wheel related anomaly.

How Frequently Should Tires Be Rotated?

Since we have already talked about how important it is to rotate your vehicle’s tires every once in a while, it’s time to know when it is the most ideal time to get started. A simple calculation you can commit to is once every six months or once after every 5,000 to 6,000 miles that you travel.

In case you live in regions that are prone to a larger amount of snowfall, make sure that you rotate your tires with every change in the season. This will enable your car to gain a firmer grip on the road.

Doing the Task

Tire rotation is an easy task once you get the hang of it. Instead of giving your car to the professionals just for a tire rotation, you can save a lot more money if you do it by yourself at home. Tire rotation is not rocket science. All you need to know is the pattern that you’re going to follow for the rotation, and voila, you’re all set.

Once you’re in terms with the pattern that you prefer to rotate your tires in, make sure that you have a pair of jack stands and one car jack in your possession. Make sure that the car is locked in one position and cannot move with all the brakes in place, doing their job.

Once you’re sure of the car being absolutely stationary, loosen the lugs on all four wheels so that it gets easier for you to work on removing them once you place the car jack and stands. As soon as you do this, pull up the car jack, set the jack stands under the places that might suit you according to the pattern that you are following and change the tire positions.

Last but not least, make sure all the lugs are screwed on tight and even on all four tires. And there you have it, some freshly rotated tires!
