October is Fall Car Care Month

October is Fall Car Care Month

Proactive car maintenance goes a long way, and with October being Fall Car Care Month, now is the perfect time to check your car before winter! Basic auto care ensures your vehicle’s safety throughout the season. Go to a professionally certified technician for a complete checkup of your car. Here are some maintenance tips you can go through during the process.

Make Sure the Fluids Are Full

Different types of fluids keep your car running during every season, including winter. It’s necessary to assess the level and condition of all car fluids before the season starts. Check the brake fluid, engine oil, coolant, power steering fluid and transmission fluid. You may consider choosing a winter weight oil for the season. Also, refill the cooling system and maintain a 50/50 mixture of water and anti-freeze for the coolant.

Check the Battery

In the winter, your car battery can be weakened or corroded. You can prevent any substantial damage to the battery with preventive maintenance during Fall Car Care Month. In this checkup, examine the connections for dirt on the pole or corrosion on internal components. Don’t hesitate to replace the battery if you find any symptoms or signs of extensive wear.

Examine Your Car’s HVAC System

When the temperature drops outside, you need to stay warm and comfortable in your car. That’s why you need to check the HVAC system before the climate gets severe. It’s essential to provide comfort for the passengers and prevent issues like your window’s frosting in the winter.

Inspect the Tires

Like any other part of your vehicle, tires are also prone to damage during winter. So, inspect the tire pressure, tread and wear of the tires this month. Check the wheel alignment if you feel or see uneven wearing in the tires and locate bald spots on any tire to replace them before further damage.

Assess the Conditions of Belts and Hoses

Check your vehicle’s belts and hoses to ensure complete protection and optimal performance. It includes checking the signs of wear or damages in these components. If any belt or hose in your car is cracked, frayed, loose or brittle, it’s time to replace it.

Get the Engine Checked

For optimum power and fuel efficiency in cold weather, look under the hood of your car and check the engine thoroughly. It is also important for reducing the level of emissions in your vehicle. So, take your car to a certified mechanic for a complete engine checkup.

Examine the Exhaust System

Any damage or leaks in the exhaust system causes unusual sound in your vehicle. If you hear any such noise while driving, check the exhaust system immediately before it becomes fatal. If needed, make it a point to examine and repair or replace the exhaust system.

Inspect the Suspension System

Not only the suspension but also the steering of your car should be in perfect working condition before winter. Hence, check every component like shock absorbers, the chassis and struts in this inspection.
